Architect David Supple, founder and CEO of New England Design & Construction, is working on a book about how architects are trained, and we had him on to say more about this. “The issue with the traditional ‘design-bid-build’ model is that architects aren’t trained on how to build or what things cost,” David explains in his conversation with Kevin and Corey. Historically, “architects came from the trades…The word [‘architect’] comes from the trades. You were an apprentice; you were a journeyman; you were a master; and now you can turn around and design and direct the work. And the book that I’m designing now—its working title is ‘Rebuilding the Architect’—a lot of it is about removing false information. Because it has been made to appear that the architect and the builder were always separated. But that is erroneous.”

Rhode Island native and architect David Andreozzi of Andreozzi Architecture didn’t even return to collect his clothes—he had them mailed to him—after an hour-long conversation with the Dean of the Division of Architecture & Design at RISD during a Christmas break back home. He sought out this conversation after realizing his penchant for design.

Architect Chandon Georgian, Principal and Founder of 111Works, is ambitious. With a little money saved up and a couch to surf on, she moved from California to Boston. Freshly graduated from UC Berkeley, she hoped that a different home address would help her land a job as an architect. Her mother had also moved across country to pursue an education in interior design when Chandon was in elementary school, so modeling that moving across country to get what you want is sometimes what you have to do.

Michael Oh is an aerospace engineer who created what eventually became TSP Smart Home Integration when he was still living on campus at MIT. He was also our first podcast guest!

This past May Michael presented at the Luxury Home Design Summit, striking a chord with the audience, as it was among the most popular presentations of the three-day affair. Titled, “Designing for the Longevity Economy: The Next Major Growth Opportunity in Luxury Residential Design,” Michael translated “demographic, economic, and behavioral insights into clear commercial opportunities for architects and design professionals.”

Architect Jim Cappuccino, partner at Hutker Architects, gave a lecture titled, “A Career Shaped by Place,” as part of the Cummings Schools of Architecture Events Series at his alma mater, Roger Williams University.

We invited him into the Boiler Room to talk about this lecture. Jim discovered the inevitability of his career trajectory, while putting together that presentation. What became apparent was that he became a residential architect "mostly through observation of these historic homes that I was surrounded by while growing up."

Interior Designer Laura Keeler Pierce (pronounced “purse”) lived in fourteen different houses before she graduated high school. Each move had an impact on what music was available to her—a move to Connecticut marked her introduction to the radio station Z100 and living in Montreal led to her discovery of her favorite band, Stars.

The launch of a new line of custom furniture is what prompted a visit to the Boiler Room for interior designer Christine Tuttle. But Christine has had an entire career in the art world long before interior design. From running a gallery on Nantucket at the age of 21 to a different type of launch, the famed Four Corners Gallery in Tiverton, Rhode Island, to art appraising, Christine’s origin story is dazzling.

On June 11th, we hosted a panel discussion titled, “Giving Back,” where we invited leaders in Boston’s build-design community to share their stunning stories on what they are doing to make the world a better place.

“Big box design” bothers Cecilia Casagrande and was at the top of her mind when she sat down with us in the Boiler Room to let us get to know her better. Hotels in London and holidays in the English countryside, backpacking in Europe and Africa, growing up on Long Island and Brooklyn and that one time she partied with Depeche Mode—Cecilia has had a wild, storied life.

Designer Cory Gans approached us back in 2025 with an idea for a panel discussion that involved a focus on the service industry. It was an amazing night. We recently had him back into the Boiler but this time to talk about himself!

We’ve been lucky to work with Manny Makkas of Makkas Workroom on numerous projects. He’s a supporter of and familiar face at our Boiler Room events, as well. We were excited to have Manny in to hear more of his origin story and got a full-on odyssey. His story is THE Greek American immigration story.

Last year we were lucky to have Steve Payne of Payne|Bouchier Builders on a panel discussion titled “Preservation Vs. Performance,” and we wanted to bring him back to the Boiler Room to revisit two moments—which we played recordings of on the boombox.

We also wanted to hear his origin story–which is amazing! In his youth, Steve hitchhiked across the country doing all sorts of jobs in pursuit of actualizing the knowledge he learned from both his father and his Hampshire College geology professor. This fellow woodworker and mountain climber proved to be a major influence on Steve.

Editor in Chief of New England Home magazine, Jenna Talbott, stopped by the Boiler Room for a conversation and to sign our copies of It’s Lonely in the Modern World: The Essential Guide to Form, Function and Ennui, a book she co-authored with writer Molly Jane Quinn. Published in 2011, their book expanded on their now infamous Tumblr, Unhappy Hipsters, that struck such a nerve that within hours of the first post The New York Times took notice and made it viral. Quickly, they had a book deal on their hands. And this all started with them making up their own “imagined and irreverent” captions to the gorgeous photos in Dwell magazine.

Over the years photographer Greg Premru has shot many of our finished projects. Having him in the Boiler Room allowed us to get to know his origin story as a photographer. It was also a look back to the time of film-based architectural shoots, where it could easily take over thirty minutes of prep work to line up one shot.

We’ve known Trevor Fulmer before he launched his rug line, but we got to know him better at his launch event in 2024. It felt like a family reunion, meeting his parents and entourage of relatives who were all so proud of him. 

Two years later, we finally were able to get Trevor into the Boiler Room to ask him about his origins in interior design and his boombox story—it’s an amazing one that  involves both Debbie Gibson and something much bigger than something you can fit on your shoulder: a white Toyota Previa.

One of Boston’s most outspoken advocates for the region’s historic buildings, Matthew Dickey has been a familiar face for years. His Instagram, @streetscapecurator, is a testament to storytelling-as-a-public service done right. And it’s so much fun.

After attending the November 2025 B/A/D Talk, we were curious about its origin story. So we invited Paul Reidt (President) and Karla Monkevich (CEO) of Kochman Reidt + Haigh Cabinetmakers to join us in the Boiler Room to tell us more about this long-form discussion series.

Iris Marcus, expert finisher and leader in the industry, stopped by the Boiler Room to talk shop and music. We’ve been fortunate to have worked with Iris over the years on numerous projects.

Ten years ago, Sarah and Josh Muncey were new clients of KCB. We continue the professional relationship through our estate care service, but by now, they are much more than clients; they are our friends.
